LOS ANGELES – Take it from somebody who’s been there in the ring with both Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey.

Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto told the Bulletin on Friday that the duel between Pacquiao and Clottey “will be very tough for both fighters,” citing the Filipino’s lightning-quick speed and punching power and the Ghanaian’s edge in size and strength as crucial factors in determining who wins the March 13 face-off at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

“Clottey keeps his hands up all the time and that’s going to help him against Manny’s quickness,” said Cotto in an interview facilitated by Bryan Perez, Cotto’s aide-de-camp.

Cotto barely edged past Clottey when they rumbled in June last year at Madison Square Garden in New York, winning a disputable 12-round split decision.

Five months later, Cotto returned to the ring and faced Pacquiao, who stopped him in the 12th round at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Having tasted the fury of Clottey and Pacquiao’s blows in succession, Cotto has drawn a conclusion.

“Clottey is physically stronger and bigger but Pacquiao hits harder,” said Cotto, who is still hurting from the sudden demise of his father Miguel Sr. earlier in the year.

I love this fight, for sure this could be one of the most entertaining fight of all time. CLottey won’t let pacquiao got the wins easily. Pacquiao should work on it.

This is a great fight, and pacquiao should take is more harder because clottey is a big fighter. Clottey for sure won’t give him an easy fight.

The story of the Pacquiao vs Clottey fight is going to be about whether Clottey’s pressure and counter punching can overcome Pacquiao’s foot speed and quick-handed, sharp-punching attacks. Trying to penetrate Clottey’s guard is like trying to get near one of Pacquiao’s veins with a needle—no easy task, even for someone with the speed and offensive capabilities of Pacquiao. Clottey is fighting for the title and not for the money. At the same time, Pacquiao is not going to be there for Clottey to hit either. Clottey will have his moments along the way. But being light on power, he won’t be able to do enough damage or land a high enough volume of punches to slow Pacquiao to the point of submitting to his pressure game.

It’s sad to hear that Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey won’t be getting an HBO 24/7 3-special videos but instead only the “Road to dallas” a 30 minute video.
